This position is located in Victoria, BC; other office locations may be considered, subject to the Ministry’s operational requirements.
This is a temporary opportunity until January approximately 2023. This may be extended or become a permanent position.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy is responsible for the effective protection, management and conservation of BC’s water, land, air and living resources. It leads work on climate preparedness and adaptation and leads plans to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The Environmental Management Officerleads and guides the development of ministry and/ or provincial legislation, policy, and technical standards in regulatory initiatives focusing on waste management, towards the achievement of Environmental Protection Division priority goals and objectives.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Applied Science, Science, Resource Management or Natural Sciences, a related professional field or equivalent, and two (2) years’ *related experience;
OR * Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Applied Science, Science, Resource Management or Natural Sciences, a related professional field or equivalent, and five (5) years’ *related experience.
*Related experience refers to experience related to environmental protection and waste management, reduction, recycling, treatment and disposal technologies.
*Related experience must include:
- Minimum of one (1) year (with graduate degree) or two (2) years (with bachelor’s degree) of experience in waste management
- Experience in policy development and/or implementation for environmental protection or resource management in a government or corporate setting.
- Experience managing complex projects.
- Experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with stakeholders (such as clients, Indigenous communities, NGO’s or federal, provincial or local government).
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience in more than one area of industrial waste management (e.g., heavy industry; oil and gas waste; wood waste; resource recovery).
- Experience in industrial waste infrastructure (e.g., industrial wastewater management; pulp and paper operations; waste to energy facilities, etc.).
- Experience interpreting and applying environmental protection legislation, regulations and/or policies.
- Experience negotiating solutions with multiple parties having competing interests.
- Experience in public consultation processes dealing with environmental management issues.
- Experience in federal-provincial intergovernmental relations.
