We are hiring a Summer Student, Pharmacy Finance and Business Development (4 month term)
Shoppers Drug Mart is looking for a year 3 or higher commerce or finance student for a four (4) month term that reports to the Senior Vice President of Payor Partnerships and Business Development. The accountability for the SVP includes finance planning and analysis for the pharmacy business, pharmaceutical pricing, payor partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions. This summer opportunity is a demanding role and requires the candidate to work closely with the SVP to analyze strategic business issues, performance financial analysis, support development of business cases, and work cross-functionally with other senior leaders on various business initiatives. We are seeking a student with advanced academic standing, ability to multi-task, and an exceptional communicator. This is an excellent opportunity for those who want to further their analytical skills, develop business acumen, improve strategic thinking, and learn from a seasoned executive in a dynamic retail and healthcare industry. Upon completion of the summer term, it will set the student up to explore future roles in finance, strategy and management consulting, and business development across a number of industries.
Duties:
- Perform financial analysis on large data sets, develop implications, and present information in a succinct manner
- Develop financial models bringing together data from disparate data sets, validating data integrity, and completing financial analysis using advanced xls functions
- Support development of business cases or strategic plans by organizing data, performing statistical analysis, manipulating data in graphs, inserting graphical content into presentations, and presenting the work product
- Analyze strategic business issues by bringing together external industry data, competitive information, internal business performance and metrics, and support development of the recommendation
Skills and Experience:
- Year 3 or higher student in the Bachelors of Commerce, Bachelors of Business Administration, or any Finance related major at a Canadian or international University
- Must have solid finance skills and be able to interpret financial statements, along with performing fundamental financial analysis and be familiar with financial reporting, capital budgeting, and valuation models (DCF, IRR, and NPV)
- Must have taken at least one statistics course during undergrad and ability to run moderately complex statistical and computation models, central tendency, dispersion, probability, and regression analysis
- Must have taken at least one economics course with ability to apply core economic principles (Microeconomics – demand, supply, equilibrium, elasticity, sunk cost vs marginal cost, comparative advantage, and market power; and Macroeconomics – aggregate statistics, money flow, fiscal and monetary policy, exchange rates, and balance of payments)
- Must have advanced XLS skills (pivot tables and reporting, macros, vlook-up and hlook-up, advanced formulas, statistical functions, conditional formatting, simulation and solver)
- Must have advance PPT skills (embed linked charts, graphs, AV files; creating, editing, and animating data; image manipulation; templates and masters)
- Proficiency with MS Office software applications including Outlook, Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Word
- Thorough, organized, and process driven to take initiatives from start to finish with minimal supervision
- Self-motivated, operates with a sense of urgency and strong attention to detail
Professional Credentials Required:
- Currently enrolled in a Canadian or International University
