We are currently seeking a VP, Finance who can be nice, will seek inspiration from our roots, can commit to achieving results the right way and loves to think big to join us on our journey.
Acting as the leader of the finance team, the Vice President, Finance is responsible for overseeing all finance function needs of Roots and will serve as the right-hand to the Chief Financial Officer. This individual will be responsible for external/internal reporting, financial planning & analysis, taxation, and controllership functions (accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, payroll, sales audit, and inventory management). In addition, this individual will act as a true partner to the business in leading a culture of data-driven decision-making, centered around analysis with a focus on return on investment.
The VP, Finance for Roots will be responsible for and evaluated on the following:
- Partner with the business to lead analytical decision-making in enabling the business to achieve strategic priorities.
- Provide financial and operational analysis and value-added decision support to business initiatives and teams in understanding and optimizing their revenue potential, profit margins and capital deployment.
- Support the CEO and leadership in the maintenance of the strategic business plan with the relevant inputs of budgetary control, financial forecasts and management reporting
- Oversee and contribute to the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reporting documents for presentation to internal management and the Board.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with the Company’s financial covenants and cash flow requirements. Serve as a key contact for the Company’s financial institution partners.
- Support annual tax filing requirements by leading the preparation of tax financials and documentation for the Company’s third-party tax advisors.
- Assist in various ad-hoc operational tasks to support the CFO and other needs of the business.
Top candidates for the VP, Finance role will have the following:
- 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience with prior experience in leading and coaching teams. Experience working in a publicly listed company an asset.
- Business degree with a CPA designation required, with working knowledge of IFRS, internal controls, and Canadian corporate taxation concepts.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and well-versed in use of PowerPoint, with the ability and desire to learn new applications. Understanding of financial modelling an asset.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex matters to the C-suite and Board members.
- Experience with financial analysis to frame and solve business problems.
- Must be a hands-on self-directed contributor, eager to learn, and a resourceful problem solver.
- Leadership, influencing and communication skills are a key factor, you will have an ability to work cross-functionally, and with senior management and executive staff and will also work with outside parties (auditors, tax, board members, bankers).
