Job title: Awards Administration Officer

Job description: Persons legally entitled to work in Canada who are currently residing in Canada and Canadian citizens residing abroad.*

The results of this competition may be used to staff similar term or indeterminate positions within the Finance and Awards Administration division.

COVER LETTER: Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter where they clearly demonstrate and not only state how they meet the language requirements and experience factors listed in the essential and asset qualifications. The cover letter should not exceed 1.5 pages in English or 2 pages in French* (8.5X11; 11 point font; normal margins). Resumes will be used as a secondary source to validate the experience described in the cover letter. Failure to submit a cover letter and how you meet the screening criteria (Experience) could result in the rejection of your application. Candidates will not be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information.
*The additional length of French cover letters recognizes anticipated differences in length to express similar content based on official language choice.

*Currently remote work and position could be done through full-time telework if candidate is located outside the National Capital Region

Job Summary

Provide essential, effective and efficient award administration services for SSHRC and NSERC grants, scholarships and fellowships programs with respect to the operational framework requirements associated with awards administration under both Councils programs, partnerships and initiatives.

Statement of Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or PSC approved alternatives

Experience

Sound experience* working with internal and external clients and stakeholders
Experience in providing advice, interpretation, recommendations and administrative services
Experience reviewing and processing a wide range of requests for administrative action
Experience working with electronic administrative systems and/or databases, preferably in the area of award and payment administration and related financial procedures/activities
Experience in the operation of Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel

Asset:
Experience using NSERC – SSHRC grant management systems and software
Experience using Service Manager email ticketing system or equivalent

  • Sound is equivalent to one (1) or more years of experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of NSERC’s and SSHRC’s awards payment policies and procedures
Good knowledge of NSERC’s and SSHRC’s program structures, tri-agency and agency specific guidelines and policies, and related funding component.
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Good knowledge of office automation tools; in particular, Excel, Word and Outlook
Knowledge of NSERC and SSHRC awards management systems and client servers (NAMIS, AMIS and CRM) considered a strong asset

Abilities

Ability to apply and interpret NSERC’s and SSHRC’s policies, guidelines and directives as appropriate
Ability to recognize issues and inconsistencies and to recommend viable solutions
Ability to communicate effectively in both official languages (oral and written)
