The Finance and Admin Lead reports to the Manager, Exploration – Canada/USA and is primarily responsible for leading accounting systems and processes, preparing financial reports, leading administrative functions, and supporting the contracting process in the region in alignment with Teck’s internal standards and policies.

Responsibilities:

Through a comprehensive understanding of Teck’s administrative and financial activities, lead the finance and administrative function in region in coordination with internal accounting groups

Collaborate with the Manager, Exploration to improve standards and add efficiencies in each activity to streamline and improve efficiency;

Coordinate the preparation, management, and investigation of operational and capital budgets, key business metrics, routine expenditure reports and variances;

Lead all aspects of routine accounting and finance processes including but not limited to invoices, time sheets, expense report to ensure that delivery dates are met and accurate processes are adhered to by all staff;

Interpret group financial results to make and implement recommendations for improvement;

Prepare, negotiate, and lead leases for warehouse and storage facilities;

Support Canada and USA team in preparing and leading third party service contracts; and

Develop accounting and finance capabilities within the Canada and USA team through internal courses, mentor and project support.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent business experience and a completed accounting designation;

A minimum of 10 years of dynamically responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation;

Strong understanding that safety is a core value at Teck and our vision is for everyone to go home safe and healthy every day;

Detailed understanding of analytical methods and concepts in accounting and finance. Ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles when dealing with wide range of business issues and challenges to interrogate data and reports, derive insights, make sound business decisions and understand risks;

An ability to optimally connect with, influence and mentor multidisciplinary teams, partners, service providers, third party advisors and other stakeholders, and possess strong presentation and writing skills in order to present interpretations and recommendations;

Strong computer skills, in particular with MS Office suite and other financial and accounting software as appropriate; and

Proven ability to set goals and prioritize tasks in order to achieve timely business results.
