Job title: Instructor – Business Administration (Continuous)

Job description: All employees of Bow Valley College who attend our campuses will be required to be double vaccinated effective October 25th, 2021 and to provide proof of vaccination status. Employees who do not provide proof of their vaccination status up to and including October 25th must participate in our rapid testing program. After October 25th rapid testing will no longer be available and all employees will need to provide proof of double vaccination in order to attend our campuses.

The Chiu School of Business is currently accepting applications for the position of Instructor, Business Administration (Continuous) to teach teaching in the IMC major as well Introduction to Marketing and Business Communication courses. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a teaching demonstration as well as an interview with a selection committee. Preferred candidates will possess:

Instructors in the Chiu School of Business support the delivery of programs and are responsible for providing instruction to students in multiple modalities; facilitating inclusive student engagement; evaluating student progress; designing and developing programs, course curriculum, and instructional materials; supporting students in meeting the learning outcomes of their courses and programs; and liaising with other faculty, schools, centres, internal and external stakeholders, and industry partners to facilitate and support continuous instructional and program improvement, inclusive learning opportunities, and placement and partnership opportunities in industry.

Areas of responsibility:

Provide Quality Instruction and Program and Curriculum Support

  • Instruct courses as assigned
  • Prepare and update course syllabi/outlines and course content
  • Create lesson plans and course schedules
  • Develop, review, and update course/curriculum and suitable assessment criteria with faculty and Program Chair(s) support
  • Evaluate student performance on an ongoing basis and provide students and administrators with learner progress reports
  • Maintain official records as required
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic/instructional design units to ensure inclusion of best practices in instructional delivery and innovation in course development and instructional design
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and develop community partnerships in industry for placement support
  • Mentor other faculty and educational assistants
  • Provide expertise in business related initiatives

Provide a Positive Learning Experience for Students

  • Meet with students regarding academic issues (for example: attendance, classroom/online conduct, performance)
  • Refer students to other institutional supports as required (for example: tutoring, counseling)
  • Ensure student accommodations are met (for example: reduced course load, additional time, vision impairments, hearing impairments, testing)
  • Identify areas of concerns and refer to the Program Chair(s) for follow up if necessary
  • Support the program in awarding scholarships and bursaries
  • Participate in college and school events that promote student success (for example: orientation, open house, graduation)

Build and Maintain Relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders and Promote the Department and the College

  • Keep current regarding changes, trends, and innovations in industry and support curriculum redesign as required
  • Keep current with industry practices in business-related areas
  • Meet with industry and community stakeholders and participate on Advisory Committee(s)
  • Attend external community and industry meetings and events to build relationships and promote the College, School and programs
  • Facilitate interaction and act as liaison with professional industry associations and industry stakeholders (correspondence, information sessions, industry events, industry/student engagement, student inquiries, and other communications as required)
  • Participate in recruitment events
  • Assist with articulation and transfer activity as required
  • Collaborate with other Schools and Centres in joint initiatives

Other Duties/Special Projects

  • Follow College Policies and procedures
  • Complete professional development requirements (for example: D2L, Teaching with D2L, Agresso Student Module Training, Instructional Skills and Course Design Training, FOIP, related industry training)
  • Participate on special projects related to the program and the Chiu School of Business
  • Participate in College and Chiu School of Business Committees
  • Ability and willingness to participate in applied research
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in a related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ business experience
  • 2 years’ instructional experience at the post-secondary/adult education/corporate training level or combination thereof
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered

Preferred

  • Masters in a related field
  • Demonstrated flexibility in multi-unit organizations and experience working across business units
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
  • Expert knowledge in related business field principles and practices
  • Instructional experience in a post-secondary environment an asset
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Curriculum development and design experience an asset
  • Experience working with an online delivery platform (i.e. D2L, Blackboard or Moodle)
  • Highly organized
  • Industry relationships an asset
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
