Job title: Manager, Finance and Administration

Job description: Reporting to the Director of the School of Environmental Sciences (SES), the Administrative Officer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the School of Environmental Sciences, managing approximately 10 full-time staff members. The incumbent will be responsible for developing strategies and systems to achieve the school’s financial goals, monitoring and managing operating budgets and research accounts, and overseeing revenue generation activities. This position is also responsible for assisting with financial and administrative aspects of the University of Guelph Arboretum. The Administrative Officer plays an important role in administering school human resource activities, including ensuring adherence to employee agreements, and establishing unit policies. For the initial 4 months of the appointment, the incumbent will be working in the OAC Dean’s Office, reporting to the Associate Director, Finance and Operations, providing high-level financial and administrative support.

Requirements of the position include: An undergraduate degree in business administration and/or human resource management combined with several years related work experience and ideally documented accreditation (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA). Experience in financial management and human resource management are essential for this position. A strong working knowledge of University of Guelph policies and procedures, as they relate to a diverse teaching/research unit, would also be considered an asset. The ideal candidate possesses high-level skills spanning: organization, communication, strategic planning, team-building, service orientation, analysis, professional judgement, tact, diplomacy; and, the ability to work both pro-actively and re-actively under tight time-frames and competing priorities; very strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and Financial Reporting Systems, as well as strong analytical, financial and management skills are essential to this position.
