Our Engineering Department is seeking a skilled individual with a background in professional engineering join the team as a Senior Engineer, Project Management (Development Services); to assist in providing technical engineering review and guidance on development projects. Key tasks in this role include in-depth knowledge of planning and land development processes, reviewing technical engineering requirements, practices, and procedures related to development projects. Generate reports on development project status in terms of scope, scheduling, and budgeting; preparing terms of reference for design and construction administration proposals from external consultants on development coordinated work; evaluating proposals and recommending consultant selection; accepting engineering design and drafting work performed by consultants. This role also prepares and reviews specifications, cost estimates, plans and contract documents related to development projects; hires, trains, mentors and reviews work of technical subordinates; leads contract dispute resolutions and risk management activities on City contracts, including negotiated and legal contract settlements. Performs related work as required.;

Qualifications include a University degree in Engineering, a Professional Engineering designation (P. Eng) and a minimum of 15 years of professional engineering experience. This role requires thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and bylaws related to land development and engineering practices. The role also requires the ability to think innovatively to ensure projects are implemented in a timely manner while upholding City standards and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts; work independently and within a team environment; problem solve; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish priorities and accomplish objectives in a timely manner; lead contract dispute resolutions. The role also requires skill in the use of office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Project Management software. Extensive background in the City’s land development process and relevant City bylaws, along with knowledge of project management methodologies, processes and policies is considered an asset. Ideal candidates will also possess the ability to effectively negotiate complex issues with developers in the best interest of the department, City and taxpayers. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
